Ange Postecoglou Sacked by Nottingham Forest After 3-0 Chelsea Defeat — Shortest Managerial Reign in Premier League History

Ange Postecoglou has been sacked by Nottingham Forest just 39 days after his appointment, following the team’s 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground.
The decision marks the shortest permanent managerial reign in Premier League history, with the Australian lasting little more than five weeks in charge.
Record-Breaking Short Spell Ends in Disappointment
Postecoglou, who took over on 9 September after leaving Tottenham Hotspur, endured a disastrous run at Forest. Under his management, the club failed to win any of their eight matches in all competitions, recording just two draws and six defeats.
In the Premier League, Forest managed only one point from five matches, leaving them 17th in the table, a single point above the relegation zone.
Nottingham Forest Confirm Postecoglou’s Exit
In a statement released on Saturday night, the club said:
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.
The club will make no further comment at this time.”
The shock sacking means Forest will now be searching for their third manager of the season, having already dismissed Nuno Espirito Santo just three games into the campaign.
Marco Silva and Sean Dyche Among Potential Replacements
Reports suggest Fulham manager Marco Silva is among the top contenders to replace Postecoglou at the City Ground. Former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche is also believed to be under consideration.
Forest are expected to move quickly to appoint a successor as they look to stabilize their season and avoid being dragged deeper into the relegation battle.
A Tough Period for Postecoglou
The 59-year-old Australian had joined Forest hoping to rebuild his Premier League reputation after leaving Tottenham earlier in the year. However, a run of poor performances, defensive frailties, and lack of goals ultimately sealed his fate.
Postecoglou’s 39-day tenure now goes down in history as the shortest-ever permanent managerial spell in the Premier League, surpassing Les Reed’s 40-day stint at Charlton Athletic in 2006.
